Limestone City & Beyond Pt. I
We arrived in Kingston right on time via VIA Rail. The ride was scenic and it was so easy to travel by train. The recent announcement of federal money to upgrade the Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal lines seems like a smart move. Now if only we could get more (any) service outside of this corridor that would be even better!
Nana and Papa met us at the station and Bruce and I marveled at the huge clouds overhead and the mini downpour we drove through on our way to their place just north west of Harrowsmith. Bruce and I were able to be of some service to Nana and Papa and helped them identify and name the problems they were having with both their lap top and desk top computers. As reward for our good work we were fed a delicious supper of home made rolls and tortellini and sausage with a homemade tomato sauce that Nana makes from their homemade tomato soup which is made from their home grown tomatoes (we now have the recipe!).
Our lovely supper
After supper we were able to see Papa's gigantic wood cutting operation (this ain't no lazy 70+ year old) and their garden. Our visit with Nana and Papa was too short (next time we'll stay longer, we promise!) but we were on a mission to get Bruce on the water so we were off to Aunt Holly & Uncle George's place to stay over in the hopes of good weather for a boat ride to get a glimpse of at least some of the 1,000 Islands in the St. Lawrence.
Papa's Woodpiles
On our way we were able to pull around the corner to see the original family farm house. This is where Nana and Papa raised their 6 children. They haven't lived here for many years now, since before I was born, but they have continued to own much of the original farm land and over the years they have divided it into smaller residential lots. They now live on one of those lots and seem to be just as happy as ever with their large garden and all the wildlife that surrounds them.

A drive-by shot of the clouds we kept seeing all over Ontario - I miss those clouds and the wide open skies!

This is the view at dusk from Holly & George's looking across to the lights of Howe Island
- notice the dock and boat, centre and left.

My artsy experiment with a near-full and waning moon. Really I don't know how to use my camera in low-light conditions so usually I 'draw' with bits of bright light while the shutter stays open and see what happens.
We awoke the next morning to blue skies and after breakfast we headed to the dock. Uncle George took us on a really nice ride. The sun was shining, the clouds were huge and the water was perfect. We passed a few huge boats, a cable ferry, a few cranes/herons and a lot of lovely cottages perched on tiny islands.

We arrived at the deHoop's for a nice relaxing evening on their lovely deck and as always, a fabulous sleep in their premier 'B&B Suite'.
